James King George

James King George

James King George, born November 20, 1933, in West Palm Beach, FL, passed away from natural causes on September 7, 2023, in Savannah, GA. He and his wife, Claire, were married for 41 years, before her passing in 1996. He is survived in death by his daughters, Amy Hockenberry (Tom) of Cumming, GA, and Jaymi Arata (Tony) of Nashville, TN, and his four grandchildren, Claire Jackson, Taylor Hockenberry, Katie Arata, and Allison Arata; two great-grandsons, Carter and Callan Jackson; as well as his brother Dale of Palm Beach Gardens and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bertie Travis.

He attended St. Ann Catholic Church and School in West Palm Beach and graduated college from Florida Southern University. He and Claire moved to Savannah in 1970 from Florida. Mr. George retired as General Manager from New York Life Insurance Company in 1988, after 35 years of service. He was a former vice president of the Underwriters Association of Florida and a past-president of the Life Underwriters Association of the Palm Beaches. He was an avid golfer, long-time member of the Savannah Country Club on Wilmington Island, and after retiring enjoyed the sport as well travel. 

A private interment at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Wilmington Island in Savannah will follow. Donations may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church.
